This compilation, released through The Black Vault, holds Federal Aviation Administration replies to John Greenewald, Jr.'s FOIA requests about the November 17, 1986 sighting involving flight JL1628. A June 2001 Alaskan Region letter offered about 107 pages outside FOIA and warned they would be destroyed. Letters from August and September 2009 say the records were destroyed under FAA Order 1350.15C. The only record found was a two-page ASIAS Brief Report noting unidentified traffic seen on radar by the crew and ATC near Fort Yukon.

A search for records wa<; conducted at thc Anchorage Air Route Traffic Control Center, the Anchorage Airport Tmffic Control Tower, the Anchordge Terminal Radar Approach Control facility, and the Alaska Flight Services Informat ion Area Group on August 4. 2009. The search revealed no records, documents. or files pertaining to your specifk request. To the extent any records existed, they have been destroyed in accordance with Federal Aviation Administration Order 1350.15C, Records Organi7.ation, Transfer and Destruction Standards. We arc enclosing two pages of a document entitled "ASIAS Brief Report." ASIAS is an acronym for Aviation Safety Information Analysis and Shari ng. This document was located in the Western Service Center's electronic files. This is the only responsive document located. Under Title 49 Code of Federal Regulations 7.42(i), Payment of Fees, there are no fees associated with thi s request because the cost of processing it is less than SIO.OO.
