Documents / FOIA release
This Defense Intelligence Agency release gathers Army and Air Force intelligence reports on unidentified flying objects from several countries. It contains translated Finnish Border Guard reports of glowing spheres and lights seen near the Soviet border, a Costa Rica sighting near Puntarenas, and Afghan news items from 1959 on bright objects over Kandahar, Mazar-i-Sharif and Kabul. Other reports describe objects over Kuldja in Sinkiang, China. A 1969 OSI report from Nakhon Phanom, Thailand concludes that a pilot's ground sighting was probably a religious procession carrying ceremonial drums.

Office of the Air Attache American Embassy Wellington, New Zealand SUBJECT: UFO Sightings as Plotted by National Airways Transportation Corporation Captain TO: AFSC (FTD) Wright-Patterson AFB, Ohio 45433 1. Attached prints were given to me this date by Captain B. L. Cathie, National Airways Corporation of New Zealand Airline Captain. 2. Captain Cathie visited with me for about one half hour. I observed this New Zealander to be not only rational but intelligent and convinced that certain UFO's he and others have seen are from outer space - probably Venus. He hesitated in expressing his beliefs re the Venus origin explaining that it usually tended to convince people that he was a bit of a 'crackpot'. 3. The pictures and descriptions on reverse sides are self-explanatory and are forwarded for your information. 4. If you are interested, Capt Cathie can elaborate considerably on his findings in accordance with AFR 200-2. After further questioning, he explained that he could best pretray his findings on a world globe at least three feet in diameter. It would be necessary for your office to furnish the globe - or funds to purchase one. JOHN J. BURNETT, JR. Colonel, USAF US Air Attacho Atch Seven (7) Photographs -Not AVAILABLE with notations
