Documents / FOIA release
This Defense Intelligence Agency release gathers Army and Air Force intelligence reports on unidentified flying objects from several countries. It contains translated Finnish Border Guard reports of glowing spheres and lights seen near the Soviet border, a Costa Rica sighting near Puntarenas, and Afghan news items from 1959 on bright objects over Kandahar, Mazar-i-Sharif and Kabul. Other reports describe objects over Kuldja in Sinkiang, China. A 1969 OSI report from Nakhon Phanom, Thailand concludes that a pilot's ground sighting was probably a religious procession carrying ceremonial drums.

ORIGINATOR: USAIRLO, Hong Kong, BCC 13. PREPARED BY: 14. APPROVING AUTHORITY: ROBERT F. PHILLIPS, Lt. Col., GS Acting US Defense Liaison Officer 5. SUMMARY: This report mentions a UFO sighting near KASHGAR, an oil field near BAI (4147N/8152E) and reported uranium mining at TALDY (4337N/8149E). COLLENT: There is a remote possibility that the UFO described in paragraph 1. of this report is in fact an eyewitness account of several Chinese Communist MRBM nosecone re-entries in the vicinity of KASHGAR (3931N/7558E). To be sure, the description in the report is not convincing, and it is not known if the interviewer entertained the nosecone possibility when directing his questions to the Source. The time period given for the sightings as August through December 1965 is also earlier than most estimates for Chinese Communist MRBM flight trials. However, the KASHGAR area is roughly in the vicinity of the furthest impact area (1,100 NM down range) of the test range facilities at SHUANG-CH'ENG-TZU (DIA SIS 106-65). BEST COPY AVAILABLE 1.
