Sighting Of Unidentified Flying Objects

1. During a trip made by the Army Attaché to Faizabad on 21-23 September, Prigedior General Major Latif Khan, Commander of the 24th Infantry (Faizabad) Prisado Group on 22 September described reports received by him from gendarmo troops in the Jakian Corridor of a "flying object" observed about 12 August 1955 flying south of but near the Soviet-Afghan border from west to east. The "object" was allegedly observed by natives in the vicinity of ISKHASHIE (71°35'E,36°40'N) and Qala Panja (72°35'E,37°00'N) and by other natives in unidentified villages between these points. General Latif stated that "more than one-thousand" tribesmen and villagers have reported having observed this object.

2. The "object" can described by natives who car it as being a bottle-shaped cyclinder about four meters long by one and one-half to two meters wide at the base and with a flame at the top about one and one-half meters long. A black band is alloged to have been painted around the center of the cyclinder, the bottom half of the cyclinder was blue and the top half was variously reported as being red or yellow. General Latif drew a sketch of the "object" as reported and it is enclosed with this report.

3. The "object" was reported to be travelling at a "fast" rate of speed from four to five kilometers high and with a "hissing sound". Only one such object was allegedly seen. The General had no other details but is attempting to gather additional information.

4. On 21 September, the Arry ttanche talked to a retired African Army Officer who had just returned from a trip across country to SINA LACE(71°15'E,37°20'H) thence north to CHICAGO (71°30'E,37°45'H) and return. (See our KC-55-55). This officer reported hearing reports from natives in the vicinity of GALA BAR PANJA [71°30'E,37°33'H] of a "flying object" observed flying east in early September. The natives could describe the object only as being "round with a flame on top" and could provide no other details.

## CONEIT

1. Kost Afghans, especially tribesmen and villagers, have a very poor sense of distance and measurements and estimates in this report are probably highly inaccurate.

2. It in the Army Attache's opinion that the retired Army Officer referred to in our KC-55-59 will probably attempt to gain additional information on his trip through the Minn Carridor concerning these "flying objoits" reports. He will be questioned on his return concerning such information.
