This Defense Intelligence Reference Document from the Defense Intelligence Agency is dated 11 January 2011. It was produced in FY 2010 under the Advanced Aerospace Weapons System Applications (AAWSA) Program. It reviews negative, or sub-vacuum, energy found in squeezed light and the Casimir effect, and explains quantum optical homodyne tomography as a way to measure and map that energy in the lab. It proposes balanced homodyne detector arrays that could help detect anomalous aerospace platforms using engineered spacetime propulsion.

and thus linearly with the power of the LO field. The two-point functions can be
quantitatively estimated by performing measurements with different powers of the LO.
Therefore, BHDs with local oscillators are amplifiers that are capable of measuring the
one- and two-point functions of arbitrary states of quantum fields (even for the
vacuum).
For an experimental study of the vacuum state inside a Casimir cavity, the stationary
state is specified to be the ground state (Grd) and thus the one-point function (.!).\.=Gnl
vanishes. For stationary states the (1') is related to the spectral densityr,, ,I
