This Central Intelligence Agency release, dated 17 September 1998, is a sanitized set of log entries from December 1952. They record a request from the FBI liaison officer. J. Edgar Hoover had learned that flying saucers were discussed at the IAC meeting of 4 December and asked for whatever information the CIA would share. After consulting General Smith, the CIA authorized O/SI to brief IAC members, and a 24 December entry notes that no further follow-up was needed.

Thursday, 11 December 1952 (5) 25X1A (FBI) Liaison Officer (Code 175 X-515) called to see Mr. Amory and in the latter's absence I took request. It was that Mr. Hoover is very much interested in the subject of flying saucers and it has been reported to him that the matter was discussed at the IAC Meeting of 4 December. Mr. Hoover had asked to obtain as much information as we are willing to give him. I discussed with DD/I, who later discussed it in turn with General Smith. It was decided that O/SI would be authorized to brief with as much information as is available from O/SI to the other IAC members. I so informed who will get in touch with early next week.
