This CIA file holds a UPI newspaper clipping, marked Daily News and dated November 4, 1966, from Parkersburg, West Virginia. It reports that salesman Woodrow Derenberger held a press conference, with police and an Air Force representative listening, about meeting a "spaceman" on Interstate 77 while he was driving home from Marietta, Ohio. Derenberger said a dark, long object blocked the highway and a man stepped out of it. He said the man spoke with him for 5 to 10 minutes by telepathy and told him to have no fear.

PARKERSBURG, W. Va. Nov. 4 (UPI) - With police and an Air Force representative listening, Woodrow Derenberger told yesterday of his meeting with a "spaceman" who did everything short of ask him to "take me to your leader." However, the "spaceman" did according to Mr. Derenberger tell him: "have no fear. We come from a country that is not nearly as powerful as yours. We mean no harm." Mr. Derenberger, a salesman, father of two children, and a chruch member, held a press conference to relate the experience he said occurred # 'Conversed' Without Words about 7:30 p.m. Wednesday while driving home from Marietta, O., on Interstate 77. Mr. Derenberger said the episode began when a "dark, long object" traveling about the same speed as his panel truck "cut in front of my vehicle and continued to travel at some distance sideways." DAILY NEWS 11-4-66 "It moved along 8 to 10 inches above the pavement, blocked the highway and finally stopped," he said. The side of the UFO then opened and a "man" stepped out, approached his truck and told him to roll down the window, Mr. Derenberger said. In a "5 to 10 minute conversation," he said, the man communicated thru "thought waves or mental telepathy." Mr. Derenberger said his lips were closed in a fixed smile.
