This is a clipping from the Passaic, New Jersey Herald-News, dated January 22, 1954 on the page, found in Central Intelligence Agency files. It is a letter to the editor from John Laval of Matawan, a NICAP member. Laval argues that UFOs are extraterrestrial machines that have been observing Earth since 1944. He accuses the Air Force, the CIA and the National Security Council of running a propaganda campaign to dismiss them, and he praises Maj. Donald E. Keyhoe's push for a congressional investigation.

It concerns the very dangerous problem of unidentified flying objects (UFOs). The facts are as follows: UFOs are unknown superior machines under intelligent control, from an extraterrestrial source, which have been continually invading our atmosphere in great numbers since 1944 for the obvious purpose of observing the earth civilization. The United States Air Force, with the help of the Central Intelligence Agency and The National Security Council, has been conducting a very skillful and effective propaganda campaign in which they have brainwashed most Americans into believing the UFOs are nothing but misidentified natural phenomena, illusions or hallucinations. They further lead you to believe that anyone who believes the UFOs are extraterrestrial vehicles is slightly off his rocker. Maj. Donald E. Keyhoe, USMC (ret.), director, National Investigations Committee on Aerial Phenomena (NICAP), headquarters Washington, D.C., has been fighting for many years now to persuade Congress to conduct an importial open investigation into the UFO problem. When the truth finally comes out, and it will, you can expect a completely fantastic change on this planet. These changes STATINTL will be very radical on religion, governments, science and the military establishment. The greatest change, though, will occur in the human mind which is very provincial in its relationship to the universe.
