This item, released by the Central Intelligence Agency with a 2014 date, is a newspaper letter to the editor signed by Fred A. Kirsch under the headline "Seeks More Data On UFOs." Kirsch defends Dr. Carl Jung's view that UFOs are real and that the Air Force has hidden the truth. He cites similar charges from Admiral Delmar Fahrney and former CIA chief R. M. Hillenkoetter. He also reports that the House Armed Services Committee is holding a secret investigation of the Air Force and UFOs.

Circ.: e. 161,624 S. 170,311 Front Edit Other Page Page Page ## Seeks More Data On UFOs THIS IS a reply to the letter (Aug. 6) criticizing Dr. Carl Jung for his belief in flying saucers and his charges that the Air Force has been covering up the truth about these objects. I would like to point out that Dr. Jung is not the first person of integrity and reputation who has made such charges. He is merely the latest. EXACTLY THE same charge has been made by Admiral Delmar Fahrney, former director of the naval guided missile research program, and by R. M. Hillenkoetter, former chief of the Central Intelligence Agency. Both of these men would be in a position to know how much the AF investigation of saucers really found. Neither of these men is a "fanatic" in any sense of that word. If Jung were the only responsible person to make such charges, we could brush the whole thing off as nonsense. However, when a number of pilots, radar operators, and other trained observers agree that the UFO are real, a serious reappraisal of the situation is in order. It is not reasonable to believe that men like Fahrney and the rest are all crackpots. APPARENTLY the House Armed Services Committee agrees with me, for it is now holding a secret investigation of the AF and UFOs. This was confirmed by Congress man Ayres in the Beacon Journal Aug. 3. I have spent five years investigating the UFO phenomena, and my experiences confirm Dr. Jung's opinion. Almost without exception, the persons who have been most critical of belief in UFO are the persons who have done no research of their own. FRED A. KIRSCH
