To the Editor of The Courant: With the delay in the release of the Mariner Mars photos, as The Courant recently pointed out, seemingly unjustified, on a scientific basis, there may be a more important reason involved. While, as a recent Courant article headlined, 'UFO Reports Pour In From All Over Globe,' release of the later pictures, which were programmed to travel over canal-suspect regions, with geometrically - exact canal - like markings, if indeed such canals exist, would certainly cause quite a bit of apprehension. Who would fail to see the possible connection between the two. Even the possibility that the photos, when released, will be retouched so as to de-emphasize any such markings, cannot be considered remote when one realizes the extent to which the existence of UFOs has been covered up by the Air Force, which, in this case, may be only a puppet of a higher agency

As Vice Admiral Roscoe H. Hillenkoetter, former director of the CIA, has said. "Behind the scenes, high-ranking Air Force officers are soberly concerned about UFOs. But through official secrecy and ridicule, many citizens are led to believe the unknown flying objects are nonsense. Hundreds of authentic reports by veteran pilots and other technically-trained observers have been ridiculed, or explained away as mistakes, delusions, or hoaxes. The Air Force has assumed the right to decide what the American people should or should not know. It is time for the truth to be brought out in open congressional hearings."

Those desiring a release of the true facts should write to their congressmen, urging congressional hearings on the Air Force handling of the UFO subject.
