This is a Central Intelligence Agency cable dated 14 August 1985 and sent to Washington. It forwards news clippings and magazine articles on Josef Mengele, released under the Nazi War Crimes Disclosure Act. The attachments include an Argentine magazine report on claims that Mengele lived in La Banda, Santiago del Estero, as Adolfo Gualterio Ascher, along with an interview with the judge investigating those claims. They also include a newspaper article on Mengele's protection in Paraguay and on past efforts to extradite him. The file has no UFO content.

VIENNA, May 14 — Simon Wiesen- thal, the Nazi-hunter, says that Josef Mengele, the German death camp doc- tor, was sighted in Paraguay as late as last July. Mr. Wlesenthal, in interviews at his Documentation Center here in the last week, said that the last confirmed sighting was in the settlement of Capitin Miranda, outside Hohenau. According to previous accounts, Dr, Mengele was seen in 1983 in Parral, Chile, and in Brazil. Other reports placed him in Paraguay in 1982. Ac- cording to Gerald Posner, a New York lawyer 'who is writing a book on Dr. Mengele, the Nazi doctor narrowly es- caped capture In the 1960's by Jewish agents In the area mentioned by Mr. Wlesenthal.
