This Central Intelligence Agency personality (201) dossier on Sandelio Herminio Diaz Garcia holds material dated from November 1956 to August 1975 and was approved for release in 2025. It contains 1966 intelligence cables on a 29 May 1966 exile infiltration attempt near Havana, in which Diaz was reported killed while trying to assassinate Fidel Castro. It also includes a report on cancelled assassination plans, 1973 traces linking a Herminio Diaz to narcotics trafficking, and FBI file listings. The dossier contains no UFO material.

Subject did not use any other names or aliases. 5. DATE OF BIRTH 3 September 1923 6. PLACE OF BIRTH Aguacate, Habana Province, Cuba 7. PERSONAL HABITS (Liquor, drugs, gambling, paramours) Subject does not smoke, drink, or use drugs. According to AMOT-20, Subject is fond of gambling (see para 2.E. WAVE 4580, 18 Sep 1963). COURT RECORD (Court, date, arrests, charges, punishments, sentences, acquitals) Detained for 80 days immediately after the Playa Giron incident, during which time he was interrogated frequently. Subject said he was arrested on 17 April 1961 because he was planning a revolt against the GOC together with thirty other persons. The arrest was made on the street in front of the Hotel Riviera, Habana. He was detained in the prison La Cabana where he occupied a cell in "Galera 14", which was known as "death row". He was released after he signed a document saying he was detained because he was subject to investigation. Afterwards he was returned to his former job at the Hotel Riviera, where he remained until his departure from Cuba for the USA on 2 July 1963. 9.
