This Central Intelligence Agency personality (201) dossier on Sandelio Herminio Diaz Garcia holds material dated from November 1956 to August 1975 and was approved for release in 2025. It contains 1966 intelligence cables on a 29 May 1966 exile infiltration attempt near Havana, in which Diaz was reported killed while trying to assassinate Fidel Castro. It also includes a report on cancelled assassination plans, 1973 traces linking a Herminio Diaz to narcotics trafficking, and FBI file listings. The dossier contains no UFO material.

## Subject: Iden A Subject was interviewed during 10, 16, and 19 October 1963 and tested on 10 and 19 October. The interview was requested by George P. WATTS. The purpose of the interviews was to determine whether Subject was essentially truthful in his description of the plotting of a group headed by Iden B for the elimination of Fidel CASTRO Ruz and Communist elements in the upper echelons of the Castro government, whether he was connected with the intelligence service of any country, and whether he was in this country on any sort of mission unknown to KUBARK. The interviews were conducted in Spanish by the examiner. ## RESULTS Subject did not come to this country on a mission for Cuban G-2 or for the intelligence service of any other country. Subject's account of the Iden B plot weakened considerably during the course of interviewing. However, Subject is acquainted with Iden B and does consider Iden B to be the leader of a GOC faction disaffected with Communism in the government. A few events in Subject's life which he had not mentioned in his PRQ or debriefing were encountered during the interviews. However, no attempt was made to clarify all of Subject's personal history during LCFLUTTER interviews. ## BACKGROUND Subject came to this country in July 1963 on the Maximus. AMOT interviews with Subject and with Subject's friend Iden C developed the story of a plot involving Iden B and other members of the GOC who opposed the Communist influence of the government and intended to eliminate the chief supporters of communism and also Fidel CASTRO. CASTRO was said to be aware of the friction between the two factions and mediating between the two. It was also understood from interviews with Iden C that Subject carried messages concerning the plans for Carlos PRIO Socarras and wanted help from him. George P. WATTS contacted Subject and debriefed him on his personal history and on the Iden B plot. Prior to any interrogation, Subject was turned over to LCFLUTTER for the purpose of determining whether he had been sent and whether there was any truth to the Iden B story.
