This Central Intelligence Agency personality (201) dossier on Sandelio Herminio Diaz Garcia holds material dated from November 1956 to August 1975 and was approved for release in 2025. It contains 1966 intelligence cables on a 29 May 1966 exile infiltration attempt near Havana, in which Diaz was reported killed while trying to assassinate Fidel Castro. It also includes a report on cancelled assassination plans, 1973 traces linking a Herminio Diaz to narcotics trafficking, and FBI file listings. The dossier contains no UFO material.

Approved for Release: 2025/06/11 C07177588 CONTINUATION OF ATTACHMENT B XXXXXXXX CLASSIFICATION SECRET DISPATCH SYMBOL AND NUMBER ATTACHMENT B TO: UFGA-12201 of the 26th of July Movement (and the revolution) and travelled extensively to various Central and South American countries, i.e., Barranquilla and Bogota, Colombia, Guatemala, British Honduras, Costa Rica, and Mexico. Subject said he worked alone during this period and could not recall by name any of the individuals he contacted in the various countries visited by him. On one of his trips from Panama to Costa Rica in 1957 Subject said he used a Venezuelan passport belonging to an Isaac* MATHEUS Vielma, a Venezuelan citizen. He claims he did not know MATHEUS personally. On his other trips from country to country Subject said he used his own Cuban passport and experienced no difficulties in his travels. Subject said he returned to Cuba from Mexico sometime in early January 1959 on the yacht SIESTA. ## Activities in Cuba - 1959 to 1963: 8. Soon after his return to Havana, Cuba, from Mexico, Efigenio AMEIJEIRAS Delgado, then Chief of the National Police and allegedly a good friend of his, named Subject to be the Chief of the Security Police in the Hotel Riviera in Havana. He said he was not required to wear a uniform and earned $250 per month plus all he could manage in fees, etc., from all business enterprises in the Riviera Hotel. Subject said his pay was substantial and provided him with more than he needed to live comfortably. His duties as Captain (or Chief) of the Security Police included keeping tabs on all foreign visitors (Communist and non-Communist alike) to Cuba, all of whom, it seemed, were obliged to stay at the Riviera Hotel. Subject held this job until the Bay of Pigs invasion, 17 April 1961, when he was arrested for alleged anti-revolutionary activities. After his release from La Cabana prison eighty days later, Subject said he was not permitted to return to his post as Captain of the Security Police in the Riviera Hotel. Instead he was given the job of cashier in the same hotel but was not permitted to enter or actually perform any function as a cashier. Subject said he continued to draw his salary of $250 up until the time he left Cuba on the SS MAXIMUS on 2 July 1963. ## Detentions and Arrests in Cuba: 9. Subject was arrested and detained for the first time on 17 April 1961, at the time of the Bay of Pigs invasion. He was detained in the G-2 Headquarters at 5th Avenue and 14th Street, Miramar, Havana, together with his "wife" for about twenty days, after which period his "wife" was released and he was transferred to La Cabana prison. He was released about 60 days later, or about 80 days after he was first apprehended, through the intervention of his friend Efigenio AMEIJEIRAS Delgado who went directly to Ramiro VALDES. Subject's "wife" at the time was Alicia MACKENZIE Sanchez, with whom he was living and whom he later married in January 1962. 10. Subject claimed to have been apprehended by the G-2 on numerous occasions between June 1961 and July 1963, but that he was never confined. Each apprehension, or arrest, was followed by several hours of interrogation by G-2 after which he was released. In all of the instances, Subject said he was detained for alleged anti-revolutionary activities and his release followed when charges could not be proven. He noted that the interrogations were mild and consisted of questioning him as to his activities. At no time were specific charges levied against him. Subject said he felt that he was probably detained because of his association with AMEIJEIRAS and at the same time released because of his friendship with AMEIJEIRAS. 11.
