This Central Intelligence Agency Directorate of Intelligence reference aid, ALA 83-10064, is dated June 1983. It lists major international and domestic events affecting Cuba between 1 January and 31 December 1982, arranged alphabetically by country, plus sections on the Nonaligned Movement and the Palestine Liberation Movement. Entries include Cuban troops in Angola, Cuban support for Argentina in the Falklands dispute, and trade and cooperation agreements with many nations. It does not discuss UFOs.

At a meeting of sugar exporting countries in Managua, Cuban Foreign Trade Minister Cabrizas urges unity against divisive US policies. g Fiidel Castro meets with Nicaraguan leaders Daniel Ortega and Henry Ruiz during their stopover at Jose Marti International Airport on their way to the Soviet Union. Leonid Brezhnev lauds the “constructive initiative” of Cuba and Nicaragua toward better ties with the US and criticizes US imperialism toward Cuba in a speech in Moscow. Nicaragua’s Vice Minister of Defense Luis Carrion speaks at the first graduation ceremony of Nicaraguan students in Cuba; Jesus Montane chairs the ceremony. Mozambique’s President Machel arrives in Holguin from Nicaragua, enroute to Grenada, and is greeted by Raul Castro; they visit sites of historical and economic interest. Raul Castro and his delegation arrive in Nicaragua to examine the damage caused by the recent floods and to study the assistance that Cuba may provide to aid in re- covery operations. Havana announces that more than 2,000 Cuban construction workers will leave for Nicaragua to take part in the reconstruction of roads, houses, and bridges. Before leaving Nicaragua, Raul Castro tells newsmen that Cuba will aid the country’s construction, housing, health, and education sectors. Minister of Education Jose Ramon Fernandez bids farewell to a group of 71 young Nicaraguans who graduated as mid-level technicians in several areas of specialization. Fidel Castro, Carlos Rafael Rodriguez, Armando Hart, and Arnaldo Milian attend the reception at the Nicaraguan Embassy on the occasion of the third anniversary of the revolution’s triumph.
