This Central Intelligence Agency file, dated 29 September 1975, collects Office of Security memoranda written while the Senate Select Committee was investigating the Agency. Staff were told to alert former employees about possible committee contact over Project MERRIMAC/RESISTANCE, and the file answers committee questions about Hayes International and Bay of Pigs pilots. It also records staff interviews about CIA name checks at NSA and a Justice Department request for records on domestic electronic surveillance. It contains no material on UFOs.

Department of Justice Investigation of CIA
Electronic Surveillance Activities
l. Attached is a Department of Justice request (Tab 1) for all documents
and files which reflect the authorization and implementation of certain
"domestic" communications intercepts. The files containing these documents
should be identified and segregated so that they may be made“ available for
DOJ review at Headquarters O
2. Since there may be confusion about the precise projects or activities-
in which DOJ is interested, the following is provided as the best information
available to this Office concerning the particular paragraphs of the DOJ letter:
a. Paragraph 2: This project is apparently the interception
of drug trafficking communications at Brandy Station, Virginia (Memo
for D/OC fm C/Special Programs Div/QC, dtd 1'? Nov 72, Subj: Drug
Related Intercept at Brandy) .
b. Paragraph 3: This project appears to be the same as that
referred to in Paragraph 2 of the DOJ letter, Information to confirm
or refute this assumption is requested.
c. Paragraph 4: Project LONGSHAFT was a program designed
to intercept microwave communciations from the Peoples Republic of
China through the use of a U~2 aircraft. The files on this project are
believed to be maintained by the Office of ELINT, DDS&T.
cl. Paragraph 5: Project IRONCLAD was an OEL training
facility in Southern Florida which routinely intercepted telemetry froml
the Eastern Test Range for training purposes .
