This Central Intelligence Agency file, dated 29 September 1975, collects Office of Security memoranda written while the Senate Select Committee was investigating the Agency. Staff were told to alert former employees about possible committee contact over Project MERRIMAC/RESISTANCE, and the file answers committee questions about Hayes International and Bay of Pigs pilots. It also records staff interviews about CIA name checks at NSA and a Justice Department request for records on domestic electronic surveillance. It contains no material on UFOs.

In accordance with any such discussions and further guidance resulting therefrom, each component of the Agency should search its records from l March 1970 to the present (including any retired records) for any docu- ment or material of any kind or description which relates to the items listed below; _ a. Agency activities in Chile in 1970. b. ITT or other corporations as such records indicate a connection with Chile . l c. Jack Anderson's 21 and 22 March 1972 articles and related articles dealing with contacts between William Broe and ITT officials. d. Agency connections with congressional oversight committees or members thereof concerning Chile. e. Connections with the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, subcommittees thereof, or members thereof concerning Chile. f. Connections with anyone relating to testimony given or to be given by Richard Helms to any congressional committee or member thereof concerning Chile. g . Cables sent to or received from Ambassador Helms in V conjunction with Department of Justice, including the "Watergate" Special Prosecutor, and/or congressional inquiries or proceedings relative to "Watergate" or "ITT/Chile." _ h. Any and all documents previously reviewed by the Department of Justice regarding ITT/Chile. 3. Searches should include "personal" or "soft" files held by individual Agency employees in their Agency offices, and should include all documents and materials-of any kind, including, but not limited to, documents, files, memoranda, calendar sheets, etc. All copies of all materials identified within the scope of the above-listed subject matters should be furnished to my Office. We will act as the responsible Agency office for their subsequent control. Obviously, we will coordinate any further Department requests with regard to those materials with the furnishing office. Further, I should be informed of any copies retained for record purposes by the furnishing component.
