This Central Intelligence Agency file, dated 29 September 1975, collects Office of Security memoranda written while the Senate Select Committee was investigating the Agency. Staff were told to alert former employees about possible committee contact over Project MERRIMAC/RESISTANCE, and the file answers committee questions about Hayes International and Bay of Pigs pilots. It also records staff interviews about CIA name checks at NSA and a Justice Department request for records on domestic electronic surveillance. It contains no material on UFOs.

In December 1974 Director Colby requested that the Department of Justice investigate allegations of violations of law with respect to Agency activities that are generally described as "ITT/Chile. " Subsequent to that referral to the Department, attorneys of the Department have reviewed a large number of Agency records that are relevant to this subject. Further, they have interviewed a number of employees regarding this subject. Z. The Department has r.ecently requested that all components of the Agency search for any other materials that may be relevant to this subject matter. The types of materials sought are described below and are from the period l March l97O to the present. The Department is seeking any and all documents of any kind or description which relate to the listed subjectimatters. Several of those matters listed below are rather broad. Accordingly, before the actual search is begun, I ask that you and your immediate subordinates study this request and discuss with me or those in my Office handling this matter any questions you have as to the scope of any of the listed matters. Several such matters have already come to mind and have been discussed with the Department. For example, our various Agency libararies may have library books which fall within the subject matter of "Agency activities in Chile in 1970."
