This Central Intelligence Agency file, dated 29 September 1975, collects Office of Security memoranda written while the Senate Select Committee was investigating the Agency. Staff were told to alert former employees about possible committee contact over Project MERRIMAC/RESISTANCE, and the file answers committee questions about Hayes International and Bay of Pigs pilots. It also records staff interviews about CIA name checks at NSA and a Justice Department request for records on domestic electronic surveillance. It contains no material on UFOs.
‘hwy’ "SF 3 U SEP 1975 MEMORANDUM FOR: The Record SUBJECT: David E. Hanlon (Telephonic Contact) On this date I telephonically contact Mr. Hanlon, a former Office of Security employee, to advise him that there was a possibility that a staff member of the Senate Select Committee would he contacting him regarding a matter under investigation by the Senate Committee. Specifically, I advised Mr. Hanlon that the subject matter related to the Agency involvement sinifiofiitoring dissident activity as it related to Agency interest. I advised Mr. Hanlon that we have been fully cooperating with the Senate Select Committee and have furnished them considerable amounts of information concerning Project RESISTANCE. In this regard, obviously his name has surfaced. I advised Mr. Hanlon that if he had any concerns regarding his legal rights then I would suggest that he contact Mr. George Clarke with the Office of General Counsel. I further advised Mr. Hanlon that in the event that he was interested in counsel then the Agency would pursue the possibility of providing him with free legal assistance. Mr. Hanlon indicated that he felt he was bound by the Secrecy Agreement he signed with the Agency and he could not cooperate with the Senate Select Committee unless he was released from this agreement. I indicated that the DCI has released employees and former employees from the Secrecy Agreement under certain guidelines. I discussed these guidelines with Mr. Hanlon. He advised that he would be glad to cooperate with the Senate Select Committee, and he appreciated the telephone call.
