This Central Intelligence Agency file, dated 29 September 1975, collects Office of Security memoranda written while the Senate Select Committee was investigating the Agency. Staff were told to alert former employees about possible committee contact over Project MERRIMAC/RESISTANCE, and the file answers committee questions about Hayes International and Bay of Pigs pilots. It also records staff interviews about CIA name checks at NSA and a Justice Department request for records on domestic electronic surveillance. It contains no material on UFOs.

\ S 5 September l975 MEMORANDUM FOR: Mr. Waller, SA/DDO SUBJECT: CIA Intervention with IRS REFERENCE: Staff Director HSC Ltr, 3 Sep 75 (Review Staff: 75/28l6—A & 75-2816) l. Paragraph 2 of referent letter reads as follows: "Please furnish a list of proprietaries that were precluded from such assessment by intervention of CIA officials with officials in IRS. Provide the name and title or level of the CIA officials and who in IRS they contacted to stop in—depth tax audits for the period July l, 1966 to date." 2. In compliance with the request, OGC and CCS have compiled a list of CIA interventions during the period l966 to the present. This list shows that CIA intervened as follows: [U I-'C0l\JU1 Proprietaries; Audit cancelled Query cancelled Provided information Audit limited DF/DFN: Audit cancelled - 5 Subsidies: Audit cancelled 2 It should be noted that the above compilation is primarily based on OGC index cards, a partial review of IRS files, and memory. The completeness of the list can, therefore, not be guaranteed. It should be further noted that the above statistics include duplication in cases where the same proprietary was subject to audit in a number of years and intervention took place each time. 3. From a policy point of view, release of this material would provide the House Select Committee with information on true names of proprietaries which has, up to now, been denied to it under the rule that true names of cover mechanisms, cooperating individuals, and corporations would not be provided.
