This Central Intelligence Agency personality file on Soviet official Nikolay Sergeyevich Leonov (201-132139), with material dated 1953 to 1963, compiles cables, FBI documents, surveillance reports, press photos and passport copies. It records his Soviet Embassy service in Mexico City, the finding of his calling card in Fidel Castro's address book in 1956, and his role as Castro's interpreter in the USSR in 1963. A source identified him as a KGB officer, and a DIA item alleged he was planning Latin American insurgency.

On 19 September Mikhail Nikolaiu Kogan (of previous record) unsuccessfully attempted to contact KOLOMAKOV, and left a message to call him at the Joyeria Louvre.

On 19 September ROVALOV received a message that LIC CASTANEDA was pleased to accept the invitation to luncheon on 25 September at the Normandia.

5. On 20 September one Pedro AJUILA called the Embassy concerning Russian lessons. He was told that the lessons were given at the Institute.

5. On 26 September "Paco" and Lino, husband of Consuelo(1m) of the Propaganda Office, contacted Consuelo to determine the address of Santiago ALVAREZ, who lives in the same place as Martin IGLESIAS. Consuelo offered to ask IGLESIAS who was in the Embassy; but Paco did not want to bother him. and Lino said they could check with IGLESIAS' wife.

7. On 27 September Consuel@ unsuccessfully attempted to contact Gordon/CAPYONA on behalf of YASYUKEVICH.

2. On 5 September Josefina ZAVALA ordered two tubes of ink from Guillermo PAIDO. (The phone number, 23-89-10, is listed in the 1956 phone directory under the name of Luis BAZ, Av. Col. del Valle 104-2, D.F.)

3. An appointment was made for the Ambassador to see Dr. SODI y Pallares at the Cardiology Institute on Monday, 17 September at 11:00 a.m.

4. On 13 September Josef na ZAVALA ordered 50,000 sheets of papers from one (fmu) ARGUELLES.

5. On 20 September MASYKEVICH tried to contact one Teodoro ESTRADA of the Mexico Auto Service, 13-12-02. This number is listed under Mexico Auto Service, S.A., Atenas y A. Gonzalez, DF.
