This Central Intelligence Agency personality file on Soviet official Nikolay Sergeyevich Leonov (201-132139), with material dated 1953 to 1963, compiles cables, FBI documents, surveillance reports, press photos and passport copies. It records his Soviet Embassy service in Mexico City, the finding of his calling card in Fidel Castro's address book in 1956, and his role as Castro's interpreter in the USSR in 1963. A source identified him as a KGB officer, and a DIA item alleged he was planning Latin American insurgency.

KOLOMYAKOV promised to go by one day and great TOLADO in person. e. Jose Luis KARTLEZ of Exig informed MASTERVICH that the article on the Russian ballet had been published. ## C. Soviet Information Bulletin: 2. During the month of September Honorio CATEOS Mendez, of Privada General Jesus A. Flores 3, Colonia del Coservatorio, D.F., called the Soviet Embassy and requested that they send his copy of the bulletin to his new address as listed above. 2. On 18 September Salomon KAHAN, music critic for Tiempo, contacted the Embassy to ascertain how he could obtain a copy of the bulletin which carried an article about the Russian pianist, Yevgeniy KALDIN. KAHAN gave his address as: Tribuna Israelita, Bolivar 36, office 505, DF. 3. Honorato de CASTRO called the Embassy to give then a change of address for mailing his bulletin: Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra 547. Colonia Irrigacion. (CASTRO is a member of the Spanish Peace Committee) ## D. Micellaneous Cultural Activities: 2. On 3 September an unidentified woman contacted the Soviet Embassy in an attempt to locate some pamphlets on Hungary. She was referred to the Soviet Cultural Attache. 2. Also on 3 September an unidentified man called the Embassy, stating he was interested in obtaining literature on the Social Security Law of the USSR. He was told to contact Hatvey Petrovich ZOTOV, the representative of International Book in Mexico. 3. On 17 September Srta. (fnu) FLORES Covarrubias of Penax, Paleontology laboratories, informed SAFRONOVA that on Saturday she had delivered some micro-paleontological samples to the Embassy for Kadama ZUBOTINA, in care of MUZIASINOV (phonetic), and she wanted to be sure they had reached the proper persons, as the gateman to whom she had given them spoke very little Spanish. She also stated that she had left a small box containing a silver item and Mexican cent-piece which she was pending to ZUBOTINA as a remembrance of Mexico. Sr. Maria Luisa NOHLES, Chief of Paleontology of Penax, had asked her to check on these things. She would stop by the Embassy around 3:00 p.m. to check further, as she lived near by. ## SECRET
