This Central Intelligence Agency personality file on Soviet official Nikolay Sergeyevich Leonov (201-132139), with material dated 1953 to 1963, compiles cables, FBI documents, surveillance reports, press photos and passport copies. It records his Soviet Embassy service in Mexico City, the finding of his calling card in Fidel Castro's address book in 1956, and his role as Castro's interpreter in the USSR in 1963. A source identified him as a KGB officer, and a DIA item alleged he was planning Latin American insurgency.

port of exp . It was stated that no Letter of credit had been received for certain dyes, but ZLOTMIK claimed to have sent a Letter of Credit some time back to Sojus-Chenic Export, through the "Lanco Popular."

ZMATNIK stated that Violet Eye had arrived a few days back, but that he lacked information on how it was charged.

There was also some brief information to the effect that ZLOTNIK had given an order for tools.

C. Miscellaneous Commercial Activity

Other transactions on which vague information has been received were:

1) Dyes: Confirmation received from Moscow on Letter of Credit 18 978 for Violet Dyes.

2) Coffee: ECLSHAECV ridiculed a newspaper story that a Latin American country (Colombia?), claimed the Soviet Union was offering dollars for that country's coffee.

3) TV: Vague information has been received to the effect that Soviet Export Film is interested in the TV market in Mexico.

Information on certain contacts is rather vague; but it was ascertained that the Soviet Commercial Office had dealings with the following in December 1955, the exact nature of which was not clear.

1) PARCIN, Francisco, a member of the "Comision de Vigilancia" (Part of Mexican Social Security).

2) GARCIA Vidal, Raul, was contacted by BOLSHANC during the month of December 1955, with information that certain material was in readiness for GARCIA. It has not been ascertained exactly what GARCIA's relationship with the Soviet Commercial Office is.
