This CIA press selection list, dated 23 January 1991, covers East European newspapers from Poland, Albania, Bulgaria, Romania, Yugoslavia, Czechoslovakia and Hungary. It lists articles picked for translation or cancelled, with their page numbers and word counts. Topics include the Gulf War, Slovak politics and screenings of officials, the Gabcikovo dam, the withdrawal of Soviet troops and Montenegrin government formation. One Pravda item of 22 January reports an unidentified flying object seen over South Moravia and suggests it was possibly a destroyed satellite.
