Both the quality and quantity of SID items have been of concern to the Office since the inception of the Digest. In the first full year of publication, (Calendar year 1952) items were submitted for publication in the Digest of which only appeared in print. A tabulation of items published in each calendar year is given below.* In early 1953 a survey of consumer reaction to the Digest demonstrated that the Digest was of definite value and that its publication should be continued. Additional consumer surveys made in late 1959 and early 1965 confirmed the continuing validity of the conclusion, although the 1965 survey indicated insufficient coverage in the aerospace and missile fields.
