This Central Intelligence Agency memorandum to the Director of Central Intelligence, from the Assistant Director for Scientific Intelligence, evaluates recent publicized UFO reports. It cites a California incident traced to an aircraft, reports linked to a Gemini launch attributed to fragments causing radar reflections, and a Patuxent, Maryland radar case blamed on malfunctioning circuitry. It finds no evidence that UFOs are of foreign origin or threaten United States security, says the Office of Scientific Intelligence concurs with Air Force conclusions, and attaches Air Force sighting statistics.

SUBJECT: Evaluation of UTO's
1. This memorandum is for your information in response to your request.
2. As you know, there had been a recent opioate of no parts of UFO's (unidentified flying objects) in news media. Very publicly reported UFO reports during the past 18 months include: the July 1973 canyonello, California, incident in which the UFO was later identified as an aircraft; the UFO's reportedly associated with the Gerini launching in April 1973 which probably were due to fragments causing radar reflection; and the Pituxent, Maryland, incident in December 1984, in which two objects were apparently tracked by radar, but later analysis attributed the sighting to multifunctioning radar circuitry. Evaluation of these and other reported phenomena reveals no evidence that UFO's are of foreign origin or are a forest to the security of the United States.
3. The Office of Scientific Intelligence/ID CAT monitors reports of 170's, including the official Air Force investigation reports, and concurs with the Air Force conclusions, which are unclassified and available to scientific investigators. Of soo CAT CAT reports investigated during 1934, only 3% are classed as unidentified; all investigations are still pending. Attached are the official Air Force statistics for the two periods 1934-1933 by year and for 1934 by month.
