This Office Memorandum from the CIA's Office of Scientific Intelligence, dated 26 October 1957, was sent from the Chief of a division of OSI to the Assistant Director for Scientific Intelligence. It records that Robertson called to report an Air Force request for permission to declassify the conclusions of the "Report of the Scientific Panel on Unidentified Flying Objects," which OSI organized in January 1953. The writer says the matter will be examined and that Maj. James F. Byrne should make direct contact.

Robertson called to tell me that Air Force had approached him for permission to declassify the conclusions of the "Report of the Scientific Panel on Unidentified Flying Objects", which OSI organized in January 1953. The request had come to Robertson from Maj. James F. Byrne of AFCIN-X1A (ext. 74903). I told Robertson we would examine the matter and Maj. Byrne should contact me directly. I will take the necessary action on this on my return.
