This Central Intelligence Agency memorandum, dated 1976 and approved for release in 1978, reports on a DCD case about UFO research. After consulting the acting Deputy Director for Science and Technology, the office concluded that the government has no apparent program for identifying or solving UFO phenomena, though some Agency offices and personnel were monitoring them unofficially. It recommends developing reporting channels, especially on threat potential or foreign UFO-related research, and keeps the case open.

1. PER THE REQUEST IN REFERENCE (B), WE ATTEMPTED TO OBTAIN ANALYTICAL GUIDANCE ON THE UFO SUBJECT. 2. WE CONTACTED THE A/DDS&T (DR TO SEE IF HE KNEW OF ANY OFFICIAL UFO PROGRAM AND ALSO TO ATTEMPT TO ANSWER SOME OF THE QUESTIONS POSED BY DR EXHIBITED INTEREST IN WHICH WAS HANDCARRIED TO HIS OFFICE. AFTER A SHORT EXAMINATION OF ITS CONTENTS DR ADVISED US THAT HE WOULD PERSONALLY LOOK INTO THE MATTER AND GET BACK TO US. AS WE DISCUSSED IN REFERENCE (A) DR HAS SINCE CONTACTED US AND RELAYED THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION. 3.
