This is the printed transcript of an April 5, 1966 hearing of the U.S. House Committee on Armed Services on unidentified flying objects. Air Force Secretary Harold Brown testified that 9,501 of 10,147 sightings from 1947 through 1965 had been identified and that no threat or extraterrestrial evidence had been found. The record includes the Scientific Advisory Board ad hoc committee report recommending university studies and the Air Force's marsh gas explanation for the Dexter and Hillsdale, Michigan sightings. Members also questioned J. Allen Hynek and Maj. Hector Quintanilla about the Exeter, New Hampshire case.

6075 and you, Dr. Brown, are going to tell us—here is what I meant to tell you—and this is far from the truth. I know of nothing else to ask him. I think we have explored every- thing. Mr.Stratton, have you had any afterthoughts? Mr. STRATTON. Just one question. Was there not a sighting, back it seems to me in 1947, when an object was observed on radar, either at National Airport or Bolling, both coming in and going out? It seems to me there was also a visual sighting that went along with that. Do you—Major Quintanilla, I don't know how long you have been following this, but is this in your records at all? Major QUINTANILLA. I am sure that if the sighting was reported to the Air Force it is on record, but I am not aware of this particular one,sir. Mr. STRATTON. It seems to me both the radar and the reported visual sighting were relatively in agreement. I just wondered if you were familiar with it? The CHAIRMAN. Thank you, Mr. Stratton. Are there any other questions from any other member of the com- mittee? Mr. ICHORD. We will be back here at 2:30? The CHAIRMAN. The committee will reconvene at 2:30 for the pur- pose of taking up 412. Dr. Brown we have no more requirement for the major and Dr. Hynek, and the resumption of the hearing this afternoon will be in executive session. It will have to do with 412. We will take up where we left off. Dr. Brown if you and General McConnell will be back at 2:30, we will meet. liVe don't plan to have a meeting Thursday, because I think a lot of members will have gone, if we finish on Wednesday. But we do want to meet this afternoon, and tomorrow, and maybe tomorrow afternoon. Then I think we may be able to finish with Dr. Brown before the recess. At 2:30, Dr. Brown.
