This Black Vault compilation contains a September 1997 reply from the Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense to John Greenewald's FOIA request, enclosing its UFO records. The enclosures include a Navy information sheet dismissing the Philadelphia Experiment and an Air Force UFO fact sheet listing 12,618 Project Blue Book sightings, 701 of them unidentified. They also include the National Academy of Sciences review endorsing the University of Colorado report and the concluding pages of a 1994 Air Force Roswell report attributing the wreckage to Project MOGUL.

DC 20330·1720 SUBJECT: Report of Air Force Research Regarding the "Roswell Incident" JUL 2 7 19~M Attached is a report prepared in support of a General Accounting Office (GAO) audit that is seeking to identify information concerning the "Roswell Incident." The report documents the considerable effort expended by numerous Air Force offices and personnel in this matter. The Air Force efforts did not identify any indication that the "Roswell Incident" wu any type of extraterrestrial event or that the Air Force has engaged in a 47 year conspiracy or "cover· up" of infonnation relating to it. Therefore, it is assumed that pro.UFO groups will strongly object to the attached report and denounce it u either shortsighted or a continuation of the "cover-up" conspiracy. Nevertheless, the attached report is a good faith effort and the fint time any agency of the government bas positively responded officially to the ever..:csalating claims surrounding the Roswell matter.
