This is volume 1 of Autos Findos 908/1997, a military police inquiry (IPM No. 18/97) opened on 29 January 1997 by the commander of the Brazilian Army's Escola de Sargentos das Armas in Três Corações. The inquiry targeted the book "Incidente em Varginha" by Vitório Pacaccini and Maxs Portes, which an officer said spread false claims harmful to the Armed Forces. The volume includes a May 1996 sindicância in which soldiers testified that nothing unusual happened when EsSA trucks traveled to Varginha for routine maintenance, along with pages copied from the book.

Percebemos que tudo era muito mais perigoso do que parecia. Tivemos um apoio muito grande dos meios de comunicação, que veicularam tudo e estão tentando mostrar os fatos como eles são. Se a imprensa, ou melhor, alguns membros da imprensa nacional, como o Luiz Petry - editor do Fantástico -, não tivessem corrido atrás das informações, tudo teria acabado sem explicação nenhuma.
