This Project Blue Book case file, digitized by the Internet Archive, covers Incident 144: two Eastern Airlines pilots reported that a wingless, cigar-shaped object with a flaming exhaust passed their DC-3 about 20 miles southwest of Montgomery, Alabama, on 24 July 1948. The file includes an OSI interview with a Robins Air Force Base employee who saw a similar object, negative aircraft traffic reports from many bases, and later correspondence. A December 1948 intelligence report found fairly consistent descriptions across four related sightings.

Incident #144, 144 a and b -- page 4 The object reported in incident ,ilia and lab was very probably a meteor. It should be noted that this object was travelling in the same direction as the one reported in w164, although separated by some 400 miles. It is not unusual for a fireball to be seen along a path several hundred miles long. There is a time discrepancy of 15 minutes between the observations, however; any connection be- tween w144 and 144a-b (in considering the meteoric hypothesis) necessarily hinges on whether this time difference was real, or not.
